Funk Dung..top! ❤❤
Marty Friedman was also in Cocophany, which is just a pure guitar virtuoso showcase.
People don't appreciate EV Rhythem work
Eddie couldn’t afford all the effects and pedals in the early days and relied heavily on his technique to obtain all the sounds he created-including altering/modifying guitars and amps to meet his needs. DLR was a lot better on record than live performance and is why I personally enjoyed them more with Sammy. Not necessarily better songs but a far more mature and polished sound.🥇🎼🎸🥁🎤🎸🎹
The Lovemongers version of this on the Singles soundtrack from the early 1990s is well worth a listen. Better than the original, IMO.
Eddie was “unorthodox” which I translate as being inventive, original, experimental, simply on another level when it came to technique, speed and style. No one before or since equals his talent or contribution to music, guitar, and awesomeness.🤘🖖✌️🎸🎸🎤🥁
Maybe do some Shankar Mahadevan songs next
This made me proud 😄
Hey, you are missing the point. They are singing about a spiritual ascension of the humans. Listen again with a higher awareness.
Doug hates drum solos.
Better yet, see Matthew polenzani on stage at Lyric Opera chicago. Dmitry hvorovstovsky and jonas kaufman best ever in recital. Dimash no passion, bad French and too fast. Check out alfredo Krause, Lawrence Brownlee at wheaton College better. Pearl fishers duet
Good Day...Bette Midler and Karen Carpenter. I went to the same high school in Hawaii that Bette Midler went to! Radford High School on the island of Oahu (Honolulu HI). I spent the first year of my sophomore year there.
Listen to the lyrics
I so love Maine! It's been far too long since I've been there. Love your show and your breakdowns of the tunes also.,
No Deep Purple gallop, no Iron Maiden !
Most people say Van Halen was all about Eddie's guitar work, which undoubtedly was a major part of them, but if it weren't for Michael Anthony's backing vocals, i dont think they would've been as loved!! Just my opinion.
Louis Clarke RIP, orchestral arranger for this (and live second keys)
A minor is the key, functionally at least. But there's chromatic spookiness going on, which is confusing, I know, but it's A minor. This song is in A minor, with the chromatic scale surrounding it like a wreath. Don't overthink it, it's the chromatic scale played around A minor, that's it. The revealing factor is the fact the song is very dominated by a Asus2 chord, and if you go from that chord, you'll come to the conclusion it's actually in the key of A minor, as per the chromatic scale, because Asus2 defines the tonic, while the chromatic scale resolves it in dominantly Am, but also all other chords relative to that Am. Hence Am, wreathed by a chromatic scale.
Waiting for side 2.. then Somewhere In Time 🫡
Now you must continue the album journey: Van Halen II Women and Children first Fair Warning Diver Down 1984
Are there any bands like these guys around anymore? Historymaking stuff!!
If you only ever buy one Deep Purple album, THIS is the one to get. It's truly superb, and possibly the best live album EVER!
Love this! Have to recommend, the Shakti: Tiny Desk Concert.
Maybe the best hard rock live album ever recorded. Purple at their highest peak :)
Why fan cover?
It's quite difference from a lot of the tracks you cover, but I'd be very interested to hear what you make of Kate Rusby's My Young Man ruclips.net/video/ZkA745lANAY/видео.html
Doug-this album took die-hard fans from the late 70s a little while to grow on. You can't really define Rush and it took some fans a while to figure that out.
I heard that Prince said he wanted to make George's son smile so he did the fall into the audience move. It worked rhe young man smiled big time
Amazing piece!
So much going on in this song it’s hard to comment on.
So good!
I hear a double bass track buried in here too. John had an electric stand-up which he brought to the stage on some tours. My guess is that is what we’re hearing here. He also has a ‘72 Fender Precision Bass fretless too. Maybe we’re hearing that bass. I just don’t know. Check out his foot pedal work on the live version!
WOW! What a groove...
I love mashups!
Abasi called Petrucci the Goat for a reason.
Really amazing that you react to this music. Thank you so much for that. Just to mention this: The bass player, Achal Murthy, an Indian guy living in Luxembourg is the bass player of my son’s alternative metal trio “Atomic Rocket Seeders”. The band is: Berklee bassman Achal Murthy, the incredible drummer Luca Daresta, an my son TAP (Thierry A. Porcedda) guitar and vocals. A live recording: ruclips.net/video/gpvJx3ChJs0/видео.html
Funny you mention hearing notes when reading the title of “Runnin’ with the Devil”. I get a strong emotional read from the hook instead just from the text.
Pls react "Afreen Afreen" Coke studio 🙏🙏
I like you to listen to the swiss singer Nemo. He just won the Euro Song Competition with his grate song "The Code". I am wondering what you would say....
The key things we need to teach children in school; social, emotional and critical thinking maturity (empowering them to form their own opinions), we don’t. Leaving it instead to the devices of parental and peer interaction. So maladaptive and closed minded behavior can get passed on from generation to generation mostly unchecked. The logical things we do teach are trivial by comparison. Look around the world right now to see the symptoms.
The original version of Astronomy is better IMO, but that is the version I grew up with and Secret Treaties was my first BOC album that I bought back when it came out in 1974. I enjoyed the cryptic lyrics and the song is an absolute masterpiece, but BOC didn't give their fans a full understanding of the Imaginos storybook (which Pearlman never finished and published) until much later. Astronomy, Subhuman and ME262 were the songs on the Secret Treaties LP with linkage to the Imaginos story. The haunting piano intro by Allen Lanier is fantastic and the song has many layers, sonic and contrasting elements. The transitions between soft / slow and hard / fast / intense along with the psychedelic elements is really remarkable for a hard rock band. It reminds me of a symphony by a great orchestra. Arguably BOC's finest song in their catalog. The live version of Astronomy on the Some Enchanted Evening LP is amazing and worth checking out. Metallica did a great cover of Astronomy on their Garage Inc. LP.
OMG... Listening to the notal outbursts & stopping trax!!? Ive seen YES 9 Times... WAIT! The Beachboys??? Common!!! Gimme a Break..🤣😇😲 Chris play'd with a pick & high end Treble often... Damn man, Can you @ least Listen w/o Speaking till its Over?... Thankyou... wow 🙄🙂
I can also recommend the Soemon ensemble from Japan
Nice!
Hmm... I have had that album over 50 years and I've put it on the turntable more than zillion times.
Recommendation : John Lords album Sarabande
This song is delightfully gay.
Phish has “type 1” & “type 2” jams. The former being more within a defined structure and the latter being free flowing & very, very open. Different songs have different spaces for different types of jams. I’m only a lowly clarinet player so far from an expert but I think those are the terms used & that’s what’s going on
Honestly, you should consider reacting to a few studio versions of phish songs. I know, I know, they are a jam band. It's all about the live jam. But the studio versions are cleaner with a better mix to hear the complexities better. In other words, you can hear the original composition without the improv unique to that particular show.
🙏❤️🇰🇿❤️🙏
